“Speculative Frictions in the Plausible Near-now”

For ThingsCon 2016 I was asked to produce an anthology of Internet of Things Fiction. Overnight.

Working with illustrator Rachel Sender and Susan Cox-Smith of Changeist a custom Thingclash session was designed, to which I added a writing session with a brief introduction to narrative strategies.

Participants created their story scenarios in the Thingclash session, and worked these out in the writing session on the first day of the conference. The same evening all stories were given a pass of editing and minor rewrites.

The finished document was finished that night, sent to the printers, and appeared in newspaper form to be distributed at the conference the next morning.
